NEED READ WANT WEAR
Excited to share how we gift-give to our children for Christmas. This all started a couple year ago when I realized that between our gifts, Santa’s, my parents, my in-laws, aunts & uncles — that my children were getting way too many things, not only breaking the budget for us (and others) but just accumulating so much stuff.
We took on the idea of 4 gifts from mommy & daddy. Something you NEED, something to READ, something you WANT and something to WEAR. They still write their wishlist letter to Santa, which gives us ideas on the things they WANT, but typically we know what they NEED each year, what books they will READ, and then something to WEAR, like new slippers, shoes, winter jacket, etc.
As they have grown they known understand this is how mommy & daddy give their Christmas gifts. They are excited about their new books, getting something they want, plus something they need and something to wear. Sometimes they even ask ahead, “can you get me this book, for my Christmas book?”
They have really learned to appreciate each of the 4 gifts. It makes it easier for us as parents and much easier on the budget.
